Sommelier Selection

Sommelier Selection - White Wines Bottle 75cl
2003 Vińa Sol Catalonia, Miguel Torres- Spain 2,200 Baht

Parrellada, a traditional white grape, gives Vińa Sol its distinctive fresh fruity taste.
Elegant, fresh aromas with fine spicy hints. Smooth, rich and crisp on the palate, with plenty of fruit
(apple and pineapple and a touch of spice (fennel).

Sommelier’s Advice: Excellent as an aperitif and with cod dishes, seafood and salads.

2004 Giesen Canterbury, Riesling- New Zealand 1,600 Baht

Giesen Wine Estate is one of Canterbury’s old wineries, the region's largest and doubtless one of its best. This clear, light straw-coloured wine offers a fresh, clean scent of ripe pears. It has a hint of fruity pear juice on the palate too, with just a touch of sweetness well balanced by zippy acidity.

Sommelier’s Advice: Riesling is perhaps the most versatile wine in the world and is perfect for pairing with spicy Thai food.

2004 Sancerre « Vigne Blanche» H. Bourgeois-France 3,200 Baht

This fruity wine with its delicate, floral fragrance possesses excellent balance, invigorating freshness and delightful persistence. The explosive bouquet in this bottle is characteristic of a mature Sauvignon Blanc.

Sommelier’s Advice: Serve this wine with grilled or baked fish, seafood or exotic dishes with tropical fruit.

Sommelier Selection - Red Wines Bottle 75cl
2001 Côtes du Rhône, Domaine de la Janasse -France 1,600 Baht

This wine possesses a dark ruby/purple colour and a big nose consisting of chocolate and violets.
An exemplary definition of a new Côtes du Rhône style, the Sabon family vineyard stands out for its rich and concentrated wines.

Sommelier’s Advice: A perfect wine to drink with fish served with a spicy sauce, duck, cooked pork meat and goats’ or other soft cheeses.

2004 Cabernet-Sauvignon, Baron Philippe de Rothschild -Chile 2,400 Baht

This wine, an attractive, vivid red with cherry highlights, has a rich, complete nose of blackcurrant enfolded in more complex notes of biscuit, caramel and fruit preserves.
Smooth on the attack, it develops a substantial, well-structured palate with dense but well-rounded tannins and attractive blackberry and morello cherry fruit, building to a harmonious finish, long and expressive, that leaves an impression of fullness and power.

Sommelier’s Advice: This wine has oceanic accents due to the vineyard’s proximity to the ocean. Despite its robustness and smoothness it is a perfect companion to grilled salt water fish and roasted poultry as long as it is served slightly fresh, chilled to about 16 – 18 degrees in the Tropics

2000 Pinot Noir, Patz & Hall, Russian River -California U.S.A 3,000 Baht

The Russian River winds its serpentine 110 miles course from Mendocino to the Pacific Ocean at the Sonoma coastal. The wine has a deep, lovely colour with some blue nuances. Rich and elegant, it beautifully expresses the mix of red and black fruit flavours, a touch of liquorice and the scent of magnolia flowers.
This wine should continue to mature and gain complexity in the bottle over the years and perhaps will be at its best between 2005-2010.

Sommelier’s Advice: Tender and voluptuous this wine will be perfect with meats served with a rich sauce and with grilled beef.

2003 Formula, Barone Ricasoli Toscan-Italy 1,800 Baht

The basic blend of Chianti was established by Baron Ricasoli around 1890 with a 70% Sangiovese average.
This vintage exhibits the typical elements of young Sangiovese. On release the wine has lovely maraschino cherry, red plum and spices complimented by cedar accents.

Sommelier’s Advice: Wine made with Sangiovese grapes, is best appreciated with dishes complemented by tomatoes or a tomato based sauce and goes also extremely well with spicy sauces.
